Spurs Have Done It Again

The Spurs, MY home team that I love oh so much, have beat the Suns. I think the Suns said it best:

"We went up against a team that knows how to win," Suns coach Mike D'Antoni said. "Every time we needed to close something out -- a half or a game -- they got the best of us. That's why they're the champions."

"Every year it seems like we always play the Spurs, and they beat us every single time," Stoudemire said.

"I think on paper we have more talent than they do. But I think their experience, their commitment and understanding of what they're trying to do is greater than ours. Their ability to play together and make small plays on both ends of the floor is unsurpassed." - Steve Nash

"They beat us with the intangibles," said Raja Bell, who had 14 points. "They beat us with the little things. They beat us with the gamesmanship. They beat us with the attention to detail. The game plan. The commitment to doing all the little things to win games.

"That's why they're the champs. That's why year-in and year-out no matter what people say about them they find a way to be right there in the mix and vie for a championship."

So keep on hating on the Spurs. It does nothing to detract them from continuing to be a great, champioinship winning team. Don't worry, one day your team will win...someday.

I CAN drive 55

I recently read that the national speed limit was lowered to 55 mph to conserve gas during our last major gas crisis. Apparently 55 mph is the optimal speed to drive to conserve gas. You've always been told you waste more gas the faster you drive, but I had always wondered how they determined what speed limits should be. So, during this current gas crisis, I decided to try and drive 55. Anyone who knows me is probably thinking, "she can't do it - she has a need for speed." I have to say, when I first considered the idea, I kept hearing Sammy Hagar singing about how he can't drive 55. So I set out with a new goal. At first, I couldn't go any slower than 65. Then the next try, I got it down to 60. Yesterday, I successfully drove 55 mph all the way home from work. This may sound crazy, but my road rage has decreased significantly. Driving 20 mph faster only gets you to your destination a few minutes earlier than driving the normal speed limit. I tested it. I never noticed how fast people drive in this area until I started driving the speed limit. Of course I do now have to stay in one of the far right lanes, but everyone else in these lanes is driving slower as well. While all the other cars are rushing around at a furious pace, I'm just rolling along jamming out with my XM radio. Now that I'm not racing around cursing at people for going too slow and getting in my way, I feel a lot more relaxed on my drive to and from work. Life is short, so why rush to the end? Just turn up the jams and roll on.

Adventures in Biking

Atom and I have recently taken up biking on the weekends. We started off exploring the many trails in our neighborhood and have ventured out to the WO&D and the Fairfax Connector Trail. This Saturday we hit up the Fairfax Connector trail and that ride was about 5 miles. Unfortunately, Atom ran over something sharp and his tire went flat. I rode as fast as I could back to the car to come pick him up. We got home and put in a new tube and the bike was ready to go for our Sunday ride. So today, we decided to do some adventure riding. Our first attempt was not very successful. I had a brilliant idea to cut across a construction site. I didn't realize however, that due to the recent rain there was an over-abundance of clay mud. Needless to say, we found ourselves in a very messy situation and stuck in the mud. We finally got out of it and rode back home in a terribly messy fashion. We hosed down ourselves, our shoes and the bikes. It was a total mess! We got changed and then headed out for take 2. Our second attempt was much more successful. In total, we rode about 9 miles and we took the bikes on a few roads less traveled. We found a trail through some wooded area and there wasn't really a defined trail but we managed to get up the hill without accumulating any mud. While we were investigating the area, Atom spotted an abandoned car. We had to walk through that part of the woods, and came upon an old rusty VW Beetle. I took a few pictures and then we headed back. The path we took to get to the car was not very easily remembered and we ended up off track. Not to fear! We did find our way out of the woods safely and continued our ride back towards home base. Our legs are a bit sore from the hills we rode up today, but it was totally worth it. Hopefully my booty will be back to normal for some more riding next weekend :)

Please Lord...Make Her Stop

The Pennsylvania primaries are today. With every primary I get my hopes up that it will finally be the end of Hillary Clinton's campaign. Yes, I am a woman who has no respect for or intention of voting for this candidate. When are people going to wake up and stop voting for candidates for the most idiotic reasons? Sure, I'd love to see a woman become president, but certainly not her. And I most definitely do not vote for candidates based on their race, religion or lifestyle.

Let's look at the real issues people should worry about instead of guns (which will not be taken away from Americans if the Democrats win), religion (which has nothing to do with government - separation of church and state ring a bell?), abortion (Roe vs. Wade will not be over turned, sorry, if you don't like abortions - then DON'T HAVE ONE!), homosexual marriage (again, no one is asking you to attend the wedding and it isn't something tearing this country apart) and a candidate's likability (as in...he's the kind of guy I think I could have a bar-b-que or a beer with). Seriously people....the economy has gone to shit, gas prices are just plain ridiculous, we are in a war that some say is pointless and some say is necessary (I say it was misguided and a mess and it needs fixing regardless), someone needs to take action regarding the environment, there are thousands of unemployed families and we can't take care of our own countrymen! WHO CARES if a gay couple wants to get married? For Pete's sake I just want to be able to keep my job and my house, see that my children have a healthy world to live in and afford to drive to work! We don't need another old fashioned Geezer who is closed-minded, uses his military service as a shield and loves to spin his campaign (and would only offer us more of the same of what we currently have in office) and we certainly don't need a power-hungry woman trying to prove a point (who also has a husband that will be roaming around the white house with nothing to do, except the new interns) in the Oval Office.

Yes, I am voting for Obama. For all of you who say he has no experience, please shut up. He is not some guy off the street with no credentials and he's probably the least tainted politician we could put in the Presidential office. He doesn't accept any campaign money from lobbyists or anyone who is going to pressure him later to scratch the proverbial back. We need a change in our politicians. You think he's an Elitist? Excuse me, but Bush is not the good ol' Texas boy you make him out to be. I don't mean to go off on a tirade, but I'm just so tired of people using these crutches of excuses to vote on the wrong issues. PLEASE...open your minds and vote LOGICALLY! I respect you just for voting, regardless of who you vote for; but ONLY if you actually researched the important issues and picked the candidate that you honestly feel can make a difference.

Play Ball!

Thanks to a friend/co-worker, we scored tix to the Nationals vs. Braves on Sunday. Not only did he give us the tix, but we were seated right behind home plate! The new Nationals Stadium is spectacular. RFK pales in comparison. We had cushioned seats! Tickets are not unbearably priced and the stadium is one block from the Navy Yard Metro stop. I was amazed at how expedited the Metro was working to get everyone to and from the game. More people need to take advantage of the Metro, it's so easy! Anyway, the Nat's beat the Braves by one point. The Nat's started off strong scoring 2 runs in the first two innings and 1 more in the third and that was it for their points. They spent the rest of the game trying to keep the Braves at bay. Ninth inning there were a couple of opportunities to make a comeback, but the Braves just couldn't do it. Congrats Nat's on a great game and on your new home in DC.

Experimental Media day in Drawing

Carlson told us to bring in anything we wanted to paint, draw or get messy with. He said we could even bring in our own poop if we wanted to. Luckily, no one decided to take it that far. Although the first day the classroom smelled of nothing but ketchup and then the second day the room smelled like peanut butter and jelly. I brought in some lip gloss, lip paint, nail polish, mustard, taco bell sauce and these really cool glitter paint pen/brushes I found at CVS half price! It was pretty fun but towards the end of our 2nd class, people began to get burnt out. Just 3 more weeks left! I have 2 major drawings to finish....YIKES!
