PhotoHunt #137: Reflection

This is the reflecting pool at the Korean War Memorial in Washington, DC. We took my brother-in-law into the city for a little sight seeing and stopped by this memorial. It is one of my favorites. You can see the beautiful leaves are in full force, or were in full force a few weeks ago. They are all gone now. Fall is my favorite season and this captures it well.

Jewelry Design: Wire

The third section of my jewelry design class is wire. We worked with brass and copper wire. Our assignment was to create 7 pieces: a piece inspired by the spiral, one chain with beads, one chain with clay, one ring, a wrapped stone, and two pieces of my choice. Here they are....

My piece inspired by the spiral:

My chain with beads (I made matching earrings as one of my extra pieces):

My chain with clay:

My ring (I made matching earrings as my other extra piece):

My wrapped stone:

This was a pretty challenging project, but I had a lot of fun and I actually sold a pair of the spiral earrings to a co-worker for his wife.

Time to Spill the Beans

Well...for those of you who don't know, there is a bun in the Shock oven. We found out on October 29th, via the standard home pee test. Our first appointment is in a few weeks and we are super excited to meet our future Shock. Baby should arrive the first week of July. We started a blog to keep everyone up to date: Shock Family Circus. Stop by to see what's going on with baby Shock.

PhotoHunt 135: Together

This past Wednesday, we got our 1-year anniversary gift for each other. We decided on his and hers tattoos. I designed them and our tattoo artist put some finishing touches on my design. We got them together, so I thought this would be great for this week's theme.

Detroit Rock City

We headed to Detroit on the 25th of October to see the Redskins play the Lions at Ford Field. I'm sure you are thinking that we must be the ultimate fans, but let me explain why we risked life and limb to see a football game. My husband and his best friend Scott have been competing in their fantasy football league for years. At the end of the fantasy season, the person with the worse record would have to purchase two tickets to a NFL game (preferably a game that involved one of their teams - Redskins or Lions). Last year Scott and his wife Anyess came to DC, because the Lions were playing here and we have season tickets. That was easy. This year, the Redskins played the Lions in Detroit. This trip was pretty easy as well. Apparently not many people want to go to Detroit, so our airfare was ridiculously cheap. Scott had friends and family for us all to stay with, so lodging was covered. Atom owed this round of tickets, so he found 4 seats that were pretty great for a little bit of cash. It was too easy not to go through with it. Our overall opinion of Detroit....it's pretty sketchy! But there were some great places to eat and for minimal cash! Ford Field is an indoor stadium, so we didn't have to worry about the weather.

We got to check out Comerica Park, which is where the Detroit Tigers play baseball. That was a pretty awesome park, because it had giant concrete tigers adorning the entire park.

The best part was being able to hang out with Scott and Anyess and their little bambino Quinn. She got to wear her Detroit Lions cheer leader outfit that we bought her. She cheered on her Daddy's team in style.
