This semester I am taking 3 art classes. I figured it would be less stressful for my raging hormones if I took classes that were not too intense. Sounds like a good plan, but obviously I didn't give my art classes enough credit. So far I've completed 3 projects in Design II and have been working on my first book for my Handmade Books class. They have been more time consuming than I thought. I am not complaining. I actually find working on these projects a bit cathartic, especially mixing paint. My third art class is History of Design. No art project, just reading, lectures and tests. Luckily I find it very interesting. So I wanted to show what I've been working on. My previous Design II projects are hung up at school, so I will show you the last one I did.

The assignmet was to take a letter, number or symbol and repeat it using a monochrome color pallete. I chose blue and the letter F. Baby Shock, who's name is top secret, begins with a F. So I used him for inspiration.
In Book Making we are working on our first book, a Concertina. Concertina means acordian in Italian, hence the acordian design of the book. For all 3 projects this semester, we had to choose an artist. I chose Van Gogh. The concertina project is to create a city-scape/city-skyline of the city that the artist was born in, worked in, lived it, etc. Since we had gone to Amsterdam during our Euromoon, I had great pictures to work from. The book is 8 pages, which are 8 1/2 inches tall by 3 inches wide. Here is the full text-block:

Let's break it down, shall we? Page 1 is The Cheese Shoppe;Page 2 & 3 are a building designed similar to Centraal Station; Between page 3 & 4 in the canal is a pop-out house boat

Pages 4 & 5 are a brick building with doors that open to reveal rows of Dutch clogs for sale; between page 5 & 6 is a pop-out bicycle; page 6 is a Red Light District house (hey, I'm just keepin it real)

Page 7 is a clock tower with movable hands on the clock as well as doors that open to reveal the clock-cogs; page 8 is a Dutch windmill with flowers

Monday we begin working on the book ends that will tie together with ribbon. I am anxious to see how this will all turn out when completed. I'll post new pics when it is completely finished.
